Deputy Chief Engineer – Fiber
Job Description
Global Technology Group is seeking a Deputy Chief Engineer – Fiber for the Mandalay Region to lead the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of fiber optic networks and related infrastructure. This role involves managing both internal teams and third-party contractors, ensuring high-quality network designs and deployment for Metro, ODN, Enterprise, and FTTX infrastructures.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning and design of fiber optic networks, including FTTH, FTTX, and backbone.
- Review and approve engineering designs, fiber routes, and network topologies.
- Conduct site surveys and evaluate the technical feasibility of network expansions.
- Supervise installation and commissioning activities led by field engineers, vendors, and contractors.
- Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
- Provide operational support for fiber network maintenance to maintain high uptime.
- Troubleshoot major network faults, performance issues, and capacity limitations.
- Coordinate the integration of fiber systems with GPON, DWDM, OLT, and other network elements.
- Mentor and train engineering team members to build internal technical capability.
- Work cross-functionally with planning, procurement, field operations, and QA teams.
- Ensure all network deployments meet regulatory, environmental, and safety standards.
- Maintain detailed records of engineering changes, designs, and documentation.
- Research and recommend new fiber-related technologies for future upgrades or projects.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree is preferred).
- 5 to 8+ years of hands-on experience in fiber optic network design and deployment.
- Deep understanding of fiber technologies including FTTH, GPON, ODN, Metro, Enterprise, OTDR, and DWDM.
- Skilled in using design tools such as AutoCAD and GIS, with familiarity in project tracking systems.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently under minimal supervision.
- Comfortable in fast-paced environments with the ability to adapt quickly.
- Practical experience using hand and power tools.
- Willingness to travel and work on weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed.
- Proven experience troubleshooting both active and passive optical networks (PON).
- Solid track record in network rollout, FTTX and enterprise network design and implementation.
- Ability to lead all fiber design activities and provide technical direction across the planning and execution stages.
